Illustrated Timeline of Taiwanese History

Post date: Apr 16, 2014 3:32:54 PM

Starting this week in class, we will be making an illustrated timeline of Taiwanese history. Why? Memories play an important role in The Giver. History is our collective memory as a people and a big part of what Jonas must absorb during his "training" in the book. Our history is a collection of our shared experiences that define us as a people. Why do you think we study history in school?

To complete this project, students will work in groups of 3 or 4 to take an era of Taiwanese history, identify the most important events from that period, place them sequentially on a timeline, and then add representative images of the various events to it. We will combine all of the pieces to make one big timeline that will be hung in Mr. Brunken's classroom for years to come. Click here to view a great example of a timeline. Below are many of the significant events in Taiwanese history that students will comb through to make their timelines.
