This week: The Goat in the Rug

Post date: Mar 15, 2016 10:14:39 AM

This week we are moving out of fiction and back into non-fiction with a true story about the making of the famous Navajo Indian rugs from the American Southwest. If you are not familiar with these works of art, they are vibrantly colored, hand-woven rugs made by the Navajo people. They are breathtaking to behold. This story uses an entertaining narrative style to teach us about the steps in the process of making one of these rugs. I know the kids will enjoy it.

We are also reviewing and practicing persuasive writing this week. We learned about the model last week, and now students will be planning and writing their own short persuasive pieces. Below is the model we used to teach them. Help your child review today.

We will have spelling, vocabulary, and grammar practice this week as well. Below is the handout with this weeks words and activities. Please remind your child to prepare and to keep up the independent reading for the reading challenge.
