Diorama-rama!

We have just two weeks of class until Winter Break at Happy Kids. For these next two weeks, the Grade 2 classes will be working on a big, fun project: Story scene dioramas. A diorama is a three-dimensional representation of a scene. Our dioramas will be representations of scenes fro ma story we have read this year. Students will choose their favorite reading selection from this past semester and build a diorama.

The second part of this assignment is to write a summary of the story they choose. Summarizing is an important reading and writing skill. We will be teaching and practicing this skill in the coming week, and students will be required to re-read and summarize a story. When they finish, they will work with their groups to complete the diorama. You can read more about the assignment below.

Also this month, students will work on replies for their pen pals. We received another batch of letters from our pen pals in San Francisco this week. The students are looking forward to telling their long-distance friends all about their upcoming Chinese New Year plans!
