Free Choice and The Giver

A central theme to The Giver is the idea of freedom of choice. We have already discussed how order is the paramount cultural value of the community in The Giver. It is hard to maintain order when everyone around you can choose whatever they want. That's the exact opposite of order. Therefore, freedom of choice is practically outlawed in the community, but what about in your life? Do you have freedom of choice? To what extent?
We will explore this idea and discuss it more in depth this next week in class. Use the worksheet below to help you think about this and prepare for our discussion.
