Conflict in Literature

This week, I am teaching the Grade 6 class a mini-lesson on conflict in literature with a focus the types of conflict typically found in literature. Conflict drives the plot of any story. Even biographies have conflicts at the center of their themes. The conflicts we find in books can be classified into four types: man vs. man, man vs. nature, man vs. society, and man vs. himself. Of course, "man" here does not mean male. "Man" is used instead of character capable of human-like thought because it is easier to remember. "Man" can be a man, woman, child, talking pig, or even a monster (like in Monsters, Inc.)
