Week 2: All about the JN

This past Saturday, the Middle School class spent more time getting to know the JN and their JN countries. We held out first JN meeting this week. Updates from that meeting can be found here on the JN website. The rest of the class was spent with a quick introduction to our first novel for the year, Hitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler's Shadow. This book is a photobiography of children who taken in by Hitler, joined the Hitler Youth, and helped Germany wage war and the Holocaust during the 1930s and '40s. Students are to read the Foreword and Chapter One for next class.

The rest of class this week was spent working on our JN country assignments. Students have a poster and slideshow presentation to prepare. Both poster and slideshow are due by the end of class on the 21st. Students should be taking some time over the next two weeks to work on their presentations. About an hour and a half will be given on the 21st to work on this assignment. An example presentation can be found here.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished products. I know we are all looking forward to learning more about our 14 JN countries this year.
