This Week: Star in the the Storm

This week in Grade 6 we will be doing the usual: practicing grammar, vocabulary, spelling, reading, and writing. Our story for this week in Journeys is A Star in the Storm. A Star in the Storm is the story of a girl who is desperate to help her sick friend to get better. She has a terrible fever and the girl wants to find some ice to help. The only ice she can find is from an iceberg out in the middle of the sea. Trying to be a hero, she sails out alone with just her dog. Suspense follows. This week we will also begin essay writing. Last week I started to teach the basic organization of an essay. This week I will finish introducing the paragraph model to the class, and on Friday, I will give students the essay questions that they can choose from, and then they will get started planning and drafting their essays. Next week will be a busy week of writing for the kids. Below is the weekly handout sheet for this week as well as the vocabulary slideshow used to introduce the words in class. Please remind your child to study the spelling and vocabulary words for this week.
