Here we go...WWII and the Holocaust

We are at that point in our book where the history takes a dark turn into WWII and the Holocaust. We will be studying these two events closely over the next 12 weeks so hold on. Hitler Youth provides great background information on the lead up to WWII, how it was started, and how it was fought. However, the book only gives us a look at how the war affected central Europe. WWII raged, as the name suggests, around the world. Battles were fought in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania while countries from every continent took part in the conflict. WWII ended up killing 50 million people, six million of those were innocent people killed in the Holocaust by Nazi Germany, and many million more were murdered by the Japanese in Asia.

Learning about WWII is not easy, and the vast amounts of death almost make us numb, but it is crucial to study this period in world history. For one, our world is still affected by the events of WWII. Decisions are made and the very borders of countries today are direct results of what happened during WWII.
